I'm switching green and so should you
This blog is the beginning of a micro-campaign to encourage the general public, that is you and I to use switched extension blocks (or power strips). We'll also be persuading our retailers to stop stocking the non-switched variety and encouraging manufacturers to stop making the bulk of their products with out the all important switch.
Why did I do this? Well I'm as lazy as you and I know I should unplug each of the 20 or 30 devices in my house, but I don't always do the right thing. So I looked to see what was for sale and I was surprised, hence the focused micro-campaign.

Hi Gavin,
Ok, I'm all for being green, but for the uninitiated, what is a switched extension block, and why should we be persuading retailers to "stop stocking the non-switched variety"?
Thanks,
--Steve
An extension block is a power strip, each country seems to call them different things, but power strip seems to be the best name, I've updated the subtitle to reflect this.
Why should retailers stop stocking the non-switched ones, well people don't unplug things, they get left in the socket, but if they can flick a switch when they are done with the phone charger or battery charger, then it is really switched off. More in the new blog post.
